LEGAL PROCEDURES

Navigating Legal Procedures for Your Civil Ceremony

Planning a destination wedding means successfully managing the required legal paperwork, and Signature Destination Weddings by Hafize Öztürk ensures this process is straightforward and stress-free.

In Turkey, all legal wedding ceremonies must be conducted by a Turkish Government Official. To prepare for this, foreign nationals must first secure two key documents from their home countries: the Certificate of No Impediment and their Birth Certificates.

We coordinate the entire process, working closely with your resident Embassy or Consulate to ensure all official marriage paperwork is processed accurately and promptly.

Important Legal Considerations

It is crucial to note that Turkish officials cannot legally perform a wedding ceremony that would not be recognized or approved by the couple’s home country.

Therefore, if the laws of your country of origin prohibit you from marrying, you will be unable to obtain the essential documents required by Turkish marriage law from your home country’s authorities. We ensure you are fully informed of these requirements from the very start.

We believe planning your dream wedding should be exciting, not stressful. It’s easy with our signature guidance:

  1. Find your loved one. (Done!)

  2. Obtain the required legal documents. (We streamline this step for you.)

  3. Secure your contract with our expert team at Signature Destination Weddings by Hafize Öztürk.

  4. Set your date and collaborate with us to craft your detailed, bespoke planning itinerary.

Turkey offers a host of romantic and diverse destinations for your signature wedding, including İstanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, and Bodrum. Simply let us know your vision: Are you seeking a straightforward civil ceremony, or do you dream of a spectacular wedding reception at a romantic, exclusive spot in your favorite destination?

All civil marriages performed by Turkish authorities are governed by the Turkish Civil Code. The Turkish Bureau of Marriages manages all official civil ceremonies, with a dedicated marriage bureau in each Mayoral District.

  • The couple must contact the correct district bureau to file a Marriage Declaration/Petition of Marriage form (Evlenme Beyannamesi).

  • We can finalize your marriage in as little as three working days once all necessary paperwork is ready, translated, and notarized (if not multilingual).

  • Our team meticulously manages all appointments, including the compulsory health check and scheduling the officiant, guiding you through the entire process with ease.

Many couples favor İstanbul due to its unmatched accessibility—often just one direct flight from global capitals. However, Cappadocia, Antalya, and Bodrum are also exceptionally well-connected with multiple daily flights via İstanbul. These destinations offer exquisite venues, reliable sunshine, and vastly different, stunning backdrops.

To file the Marriage Petition, both the bride and groom must present the following attested documents:

  • Attested Certificate of No Impediment (Affidavit of Eligibility to Marry)

  • Personal Identification (Passports are acceptable)

  • Health Check Reports (We assist you in obtaining these from a legitimate Turkish hospital or health clinic)

  • Six Passport Photos

  • Attested Full Birth Certificates (if the Affidavit does not contain parents’ names)

  • Accommodation Document (if not currently residing in Turkey)

Additionally Required Documents (if applicable):

  • A divorce or death certificate of the previous spouse (attested)

  • A deed poll (if the birth name has been officially changed, attested)

  • An adoption certificate (if adopted, attested)

Turkish authorities can legally marry a Turkish national and a foreigner, or two foreigners of different nationalities. Please note that legal regulations vary globally; Signature Destination Weddings by Hafize Öztürk will assess your specific case to ensure full compliance.

A medical examination is compulsory for marriage in Turkey. The blood test displays your blood type and tests for contagious diseases, including HIV, Hepatitis B & C, Syphilis, and Thalassemia. The health report is strictly accepted only from designated Turkish clinics and/or hospitals.

Our team at Signature Destination Weddings by Hafize Öztürk will assist you in navigating and completing all required health check procedures at the facility designated by the local Marriage Bureau.

While Turkey is known for being culturally diverse, it does not currently recognize same-sex marriages under Turkish law. However, we are delighted to organize and design your exquisite symbolic ceremony with any theme or style you desire, ensuring your gay or lesbian wedding celebration is both beautiful and unforgettable.
